For sellers: separate sale information from personal information
A public listing needs the sale address, dates, hours and useful item details. It does not need a personal phone number, family schedule, alarm information or a photograph containing mail, identification, medication labels or vehicle plates.
Photograph items against a simple background and review the whole image before uploading. Store anything not for sale behind a closed door or away from the shopping area. If possible, have another adult present during busy periods and while closing.
For shoppers: verify before travelling
Check the date and hours on the current listing, especially if you saved it earlier in the week. Do not assume a sale is open because an old social post or search result still exists. Respect posted boundaries and do not enter a home, garage or yard area that is not clearly open to shoppers.
When travelling alone, let someone know your route and keep valuables out of sight in a parked vehicle. Follow normal parking rules and avoid blocking driveways, sidewalks or emergency access.
Treat payments like any other in-person transaction
Inspect an item before paying and ask questions before loading it. Sellers should verify electronic payments inside their own banking or payment app. A payment screenshot, email or text message is not confirmation that funds arrived.
Garage Hoppers is a directory and is not a party to a transaction. Never send a deposit, verification code or account password because someone claims it is required by Garage Hoppers.
Use extra care with pickups and free items
Free-item listings use an approximate pickup area so the exact address can be shared privately. Confirm the item and pickup plan with the seller before travelling. Do not enter a residence or enclosed area if the arrangement feels different from what was discussed.
For large items, bring the help and vehicle you need. Do not rely on a seller to lift, disassemble or transport an item unless that was agreed in advance.
Know when to walk away
Leave if a situation feels unsafe, the address does not match, the seller requests unusual payment steps or the item appears unlawful. In an emergency, contact local emergency services. For an inaccurate or concerning listing, contact Garage Hoppers with the listing URL and a concise explanation.
A missed deal is replaceable. Personal safety, privacy and control of your accounts are not.
